How PTP Security works
PTP uses RSA Public/Private Key encryption, which encrypts for a specific person. Once you have encrypted a file for that person even you cannot open it again (unless you encrypted it for yourself). You still have your original copy of course.
The beauty of this system is that the person you are encrypting for doesn't need a password to open it. Therefore you don't have the difficulty of getting the password to them safely. Microsoft use this method in S/MIME but virtually no-one uses it. Why? because Microsoft insist that everyone using it has to purchase and maintain a Digital Certificate, a complex and bewildering process.
PTP is different because we do it without the use of Digital Certificates. This makes insaillation and administration easy. It also means that you don't have 3rd party companies holding your personal data and encryption keys. Anyone can legally use PTP, just download and install.
Your contacts simply install PTP and click a button called "Email Public Key". This will email their public key to you and they will appear in your PTP contact list. You can now encrypt files and emails for them. That's it - its as simple as that!
